Something New on the Horizon...

I was so inspired this past week during an interview with young men and women at the Horizon House. Horizon House brings in homeless youth and provides homes for them through their independent living program. Many of these youth have aged out of foster-care, never knew loving families, their parents died or just didn’t care for them. It was heartbreaking to hear their stories, especially of one young man who’s real parent’s didn’t want him…and then, to make matters worse, his adoptive parents didn’t even want him. When I asked the girls about some of the obstacles they face, they told me just getting where they need to go - they have to take the bus (when they can even afford it). They don’t have cars, they don’t have health insurance, so something like just going to the dentist or doctor is not an option for them.
It caused me to think of the things that I take for granted each and every day… I started counting my blessings.
Still, despite their awful circumstances, these girls were attending Akron University and looking for jobs. I saw hope and potential in these girls, though they didn’t see it in themselves. I told them this is just the beginning of a new journey in their life…
I don’t know where you are in life or what problems you are facing, but nothing lasts forever - EVERYTHING changes!! Never give up or give in to life’s difficulties. Keep pressing forward. God opens doors no man can open, He gives favor, and will take you places no education or status can bring you. Let God start opening the doors for you…God Bless!! *
